For
a better understanding of this subject, we recommend a
previous reading of the topics “Occult Anatomy” and
“The Centers of The Human Machine”.
Self-observation
is a precious capacity that everyone possesses, but
unfortunately due to total ignorance and consequent
disuse, it becomes atrophied. This sense allows us to
know ourselves and to explore our own inner world.
At
the entrance of the Delphos temple there is an
inscription:
“…Oh
man, know yourself and you will know the Universe and
the Gods.”
The
inner being as just as the outer one. The one who really
knows himself also truly understands the world around
him.
After
knowing the centers of the human machine, we have to
observe them, and focus our attention on these centers.
To
do this, it is not necessary to stop what we are doing,
it does not matter if we are at home, at work or
anywhere else.
As
the “self” constantly acts in one center or another,
we need to be constantly attentive at all times.
In
the beginning we will not be able to observe ouselves
very much, perhaps only a few times a day.
This
may vary from person to person, it depends on how
atrophied this important function has become.
But
with practice, the period of self-observation will
gradually increase and we will begin to understand
ourselves more and more, and see how we really are
inside.
This
is the science of self-knowledge.
Basically,
we must observe at the three centers the following
things:
Intelectual
Center:
morbid and negative thoughts, about yourself and others,
such as anger, lust, jealousy, covetousness, dishonesty,
betrayal, robbery, etc. We must also observe how rapidly
our thoughts change. We think about things we are going
to do, what we saw on TV, what we should have said to
someone, in short, a succession of uncontrolled
thoughts. All this confusion of thoughts and mental
images are also the “self” and they block our
concentration.
We
must make all effort to do all our daily activities with
concentration. If we are in self-observation, then we
are concentrated both inside and outside. This is the
first goal, because concentration is the basic tool for
our self-knowledge.
Emotional
Center:
every type of negative emotion such as anger, jealousy,
fear, anguish, anxiety, impatience, attachment to things
and people, worry, exaggerated feelings, etc.
The
same feeling may act, for example, first in the
emotional center and then in the intelectual
center.
For
example, when somebody says something that we don’t
like.
We
get upset (emotional center) and then we think about
reacting or we think about several things we should have
said, or done, etc. (intelectual center). We might get
even more identified with that situation and make
gestures or even fight. We observe in this example that
the whole human machine was controlled by the ego as if
it were a puppet.
If
we are in self-observation, we will be able to see that
this happens all the time.
Sexual
Center:
misuse of sexual energies. The creative energy of sex is
by far the most powerful energy we possess and the ego
wastes it in stupid ways watching movies, spectacles,
advertisements, implicit or explicit immoral
pornography, morbid thoughts, dishonest conversations,
etc.
The
misuse of sexual energies may rapidly lead to sexual
impotence.
And,
when we are in self-observation, and perceive that one
of these aspects is in operation, what can we do to
eliminate it?
Psychological or mystical death.
